Scientific name:
Pelusios castanoides
Identification:
Up to 23 cm. An olive - brown hinged terrapin with long neck. Shell olive - brown.
Habitat:
In water bodies along the Tanzania and southern Kenyan coastal plain, in land up to Rufiji river, usually in backwaters.
Behaviour:
Aquatic, active by day, buries itself in the mud in the dry season.
Food:
Eats insects, water snails and floating vegetations.
Reproduction:
Lays up to 25 eggs.
