Identification:
Overall olive - greenish. Males of olive race have a very well developed cape on shoulders.
Habitat:
Usually associated with wooded savanna but also found in mountainous and hilly country. Access to drinking water essential as well as to roosting cliffs or tall trees.
Behaviour:
Highly social, living in troops of 15 - 100 individuals. Adults males dominant over females and there is a strict pecking order. Dominant male determines when troop will move or rest and usually has sole mating rights with receptive females.
Food:
True omnivores, feeding on a wide range of plants and animal food including young antelope, hares and mice. In agricultural areas can be a nuisance, raiding crops and killing livestock.
Reproduction:
Single, pink - faced young born after about 180 days gestation. Born occur at any time of year.
Longevity:
Atleast 30 years in captivity.
