Scientific name: Schistometopum gregorii
Identification:
Grows to 36 cm. A large caecilian, the only of its genus in East Africa, shiny brown/black in colour with a paler head.
Habitat:
Restricted of floodplains of some of larger rivers, recorded from the Tana Delta in Kenya and between Bagamoyo and the mouth of the Rufiji river.
Natural History:
Found in moist soil on floodplains.
Food:
They eat earthworms and fly pupae
Reproduction:
Viviparous
