Scientific name:
Geochelone pardalis
Identification:
Up to 70 cm. A large tortoise with black and yellow domed shell, and no hinge.
Habitat:
Semi desert, dry and moist savanna, from sea level to 1500 metres.
Behaviour:
Diurnal, shelters midday, active in rainy season.
Food:
They eat plants.
Reproduction:
Male fight in breeding season, and are equally rough with females. Up to 30 eggs, about 5 cm diameter, are laid, possibly several clutches in season.
